dé Céadaoin

So this is Wednesday. Today has been a great and intense day.

At first we went to the school and we played a new sport. It was Gaelic Football. This is one of the most played sports in Ireland, and the players are all amateur. There aren't any professional players. It has some rules similar to football, but there are others that remind us of our handball. Anyway, It was so much fun because we played against our teachers and we won.

After our glorious victory we did our presentation about the refugees and how we treat them in our country. It was really interesting, considering the humanitarian crisis we are living with the invasion of Ukraine.

Before lunch we did a very funny competition about who was the best at building a boat with some materials we were given.

In the afternoon we went to a lovely village called Kinsale. We went for a walk and we visited its colourful streets.

Finally we had dinner with our friends from Ireland, Germany and Cyprus in an Italian restaurant, and we had a really great time. We have done a lot of things today! And tomorrow we will celebrate Saint Patrick's Day!!!

dé Máirt!!

Hello again from Cork.

Today we had a trip to Cobh!

We did something special today, we went to Cobh by train. Cobh is a toristic village in the coast, where the river Lee (the city that runs through Cork) meets the Atlantic Ocean.

In Cobh we have visited Spike island, the largest island prison of the world ( larger than the famous Alcatraz prison) Spike island was used for common criminals, but also for political  prisioners. Ireland was under English rule for over 800 centuries. There we saw the punishments the prisioners had (our teacheirs took notes of that, we don't really know what for).

After Spike island we had some free time in Cobh, and then back to Cork. And finally the rain appeared (we thought the Irish weather fame was fake) Hope tomorrow gets better. See you tomorrow.

dé Luain!!!

Dia Dhuit! or hello, as they say in Irish, the celtic language spoken in Ireland.

Today our work started in Mount Mercy. We arrived at 9:20 and, after meeting the rest of the Erasmus students we had a tour of the school. It is a girls school, so the students were really excited to have boys among them.

Our first day consisted of ice breaker activities and then presentations about our country and our school. Then we moved to the stereotypes presentations where we talked about how foreigners think about us and how that makes us feel.

Rumania was there doing their presentations online, so we could also say hello to them!

After lunch in the school we had a walking tour from the school to the city center. We finished really tired but we learned a lot about the history of Cork and the University. And we didn’t cross the quadrangle, which is said to bring bad luck to students, as they will fail their exams (hope this is not our case)

In the afternoon we went to have dinner with the German students, whom we found really nice.

So that’s all for today. Hope Tuesday is more relaxed!

Failte!!!!

Welcome to our Irish experience!!!

We are glad to announce that we finally arrived. At aprox. 16:00 (local hour) we landed in the Emerald Island.

The weather was surprisingly good (lot of sunshine).

We arrived at our hostel (quite an experience) and did our first steps in the city of Cork. Just a 40 minutes walk. Our main interests were Augustinian places. We first encountered Saint Augustine’s church, but we couldn't enter as Mass had already started. Nonetheless we took a photo from the door, where you can see something we say in our morning prayers (but in latin)

Then we headed for the old ruins of the Red abbey ( the Saint Augustine convent of the 13th century) Only the old tower remains.

As it was getting dark we went for dinner to a pub. It was crouded, since it was Sunday. But we were really tired to complain. We went back to the hostel because on Monday we were having our first day in Mount Mercy school.
